The R&R project takes place every year in Barcelona since 2005. Young talents from diverse backgrounds participate in the fields of music, dance and media.
In 2006 and 2007 the final concert took place at the Hipnotik Festival. In 2008 the youngsters performed with Gregory Isaacs at the Apolo in Barcelona. The project is supported by Hipnotik Festival and the Interactive Media Lab at the University Barcelona.
From May 2 to 5 we had our first creative residency and the first show - actually the preview-performance - in the frame of the 19th edition of Fabbrica Europa Festival in Florence. In this interdisciplinary project every participant was involved to create this first step of our improvisation-based show on cultural diversity, urban environment and visions of a future Europe. Using the artistic materials created by the national groups before and during the residency we started to develop a common artistic language, the codes and signs for improvise on stage.
During these days at youth and music centre Sonoria by the public library BiblioteCaNova, we had a possibility to develop the show and to have an rehearsal opened to the youngsters and locals (4th May). The show was presented on the next day at Le Murate, in collaboration with Caffè Letterario. The lovely courtyard where the café is situated was a prison before but now includes a beautiful café, galeries and officies. It was a pleasure for us and luckily we had a big audience. The first part of the show, which was based mostly on a choreography which involved plastic textiles gave the atmosphere for the whole performance which was finally one hour long. We skipped some elements of the structure what we made before but we will increase them for the final performances that will be presented in August in Budapest in the frame of Sziget Festival, and in autumn in Bucharest.
From August 5 to August 7 2012 we had the second activity of the Talking heArts project in Hungary. In the frame of the 20th edition of SZIGET FESTIVAL we performed a 40 minutes long show at the A38 stage on Tuesday 23.15, before the EUtropia performance-in-progress. During the activity we developed our improvisation based performance, but because of this short period of rehearsing together the international groups prepared locally since before. The Hungarian part of the Talking heArts group made a pre-show including local artists at Toldi Club (Budapest) in July 2012.
For the Sziget performance we invited further local artists to have some new inspiration. Bari Kim who is a contemporary dancer came from Germany for the project. Gregory Zeigler (USA) as percussion musician joined the group. Zoltán Grecsó (professional dancer) and Krisztina Bogó (visual artist), both from Budapest, helped the group to improve the show.
Sziget Festival is the proud winner of the „2011 Best European Major Festival” award and known as one of the biggest multicultural events of Europe, starting in 1993 and already celebrating its 21st edition. The festival attracts almost 400 000 fans from over 70 countries to a beautiful island in the heart of Budapest, providing a complete festival-holiday experience with non-stop party, great live concerts, a widely international community and all the touristic features the city has to offer. Sziget is many festivals in one, a week long non-stop event with approx. 60 program venues and around 200 programs daily. Performing bands range from the biggest names of the international pop/rock scene to stars of world and electronic music, but you will also find metal, folk, jazz, blues, alternative and even classical tunes, while you are wondering around the huge festival area.
On October 2012 we performed in Bucharest at Godot Café, which is a nice café-theatre in the historical city center, usually hosting theatre performances and live concerts. This stage and atmosphere was totally different from our previous experiences. At Caffé Letterario (Florence) we had an open air stage with a festival atmosphere. At the Sziget Festival (Budapest) we also performed as a part of a mainstream music and art festival on a huge stage and with a professional technical support. At every step we had to understand the possibilities of the stage and ‘translate’ or ‘develop’ our artistic material and frame it into the specific space.
In addition, from October 24 to October 26 the Talking heArts group had an intense rehearsing period to develop the show for Godot Café with the support of a group of local artists who are part of ROOTS & ROUTES International and gave some new colours to the show.
